Nutrition and Wellness

Our nation is facing a self-imposed crisis, one that we cause and perpetuate daily with every food choice we make for ourselves and those we love. A reflection of the epidemically dysfunctional relationship the majority of us have with our food is illustrated by two-thirds of our population now classified as obese and overweight. Those who fall under the said classification consequently struggle with a host of related disabilities, illness, disease, and most grievously premature death. Obesity and its related health complications are now the sophomoric cause of preventable death in the United States, second only to tobacco use. The effects of obesity are a prevalent and recognized national malady, but as homogenization of the fast-food nation culture that dictates peoples' choice to consume cheaper faster food over healthy, organic whole foods continues to thrive on a global scale, we stand to see the national epidemic of overweight and obesity spread into a global pandemic if not harnessed with the fervor with which we fight cancer, heart disease, and any other major killer of the public at large.

I will use the Nutrition and Wellness (Nutrition for Healing and Life Optimization) section of my blog to explore general nutrition, healing and life optimization through nutrition and supplements, and the roles played by psychological and sociological factors in our food choices and practices.
